Effective Team Building Event

... for your youth group, business, sports team, church group or other organization.

To see pictures of some of our elements from the different Ropes areas, check out the "Ropes" photo album under the "Camp Areas" collection!

High Ropes

The Portage Lake high ropes consists of three separate structures:
  • The Climbling Tower is a three sided tower with rock holds.  Each side offers a different experience and a differing level of challenging paths to take.
  • The Leap of Faith is a simple element made of three telephone poles.  With two poles used for the dual safety line system, the third pole is scaled by the participant.  When the participant reaches the top, they can enjoy the view and then leap off.
  • The High Ropes Course is located 30 feet above the ground.  Each of the eight elements is constructed of cables, logs, and ropes and are designed to present a physical and emotional challenge to the participants.  After the participant finishes all the elements, they are zipped away on our zip line.
High Ropes Course Elements:
Postman's Walk
Vine Walk
Hour Glass Crossing
Bows and Chairs
The Beam
The Trestle Walk
Wild Woosey
Zip Line

High Elements Benefits
  • The high ropes course is fun.
  • Participants are moved to greater self-confidence, physically and emotionally.
  • Learn to take calculated risks.

Low Ropes

A low ropes course is a series of separate elements. Each element presents the group with a specific challenge. Each obstacle is unique, but all require the group to plan and execute as a team in order to reach their goals. Portage Lake's low ropes course consists of 10 elements.

Low Elements

Wild Woosey
The Wall
Nitro Crossing
Missing Bridge
Spider Web
All Aboard
The Trolley
Squeeze Box

Low Elements Benefits
  • Encourages and facilitates group development.
  • Uses the group's creativity, leadership, trust and encouragement.
  • Improves group communication.
  • A debriefing discussion following the experience will help groups identify strengths and weaknesses.

FAQ's:

Is it safe?
The safety of group members is our main concern.  All participants are trained by experienced instructors.  All Portage Lake equipment is state-of-the-art and is checked thoroughly by the Portage Lake staff before each use.  Each person is challenged to complete the course, but all that is required is a desire to try.

Group Size
A minimum of eight people are required to go through the course.  If your group is larger, then the Portage Lake staff will separate you into groups of 8 to 12 people.  We can adapt our low course curriculum to meet the individual needs of your group.

How Much Time?

The ropes course can easily be a day-long activity if you want it to be.  The morning session would cover the low course initiatives and the afternoon would be spent on the high ropes course.  It takes about 5 hours to move a group of thirty completely through the course.

Making Arrangements
You and your group can make arrangements to use the Ropes Course at Portage Lake simply by contacting us.  We would love to create a ropes course experience to help your group improve community and relationships.

Cost and Additional Services
Ropes Course Fees for Day Guests are $25.00 per person.  Lunch Catering arrangements can be made for an additional $5.00 per person.

A minimum of $250.00 is required from all groups (approximate minimum of 10 participants).
